FIRMLY CONFRONTING THE GLOBALIZATION OF INDIFFERENCE
Ash Wednesday, 18th Feb, ushers us into the joyful season of Lent, preceding the even more joyful season of Easter. Totally 90 days of grace-filled moments to revitalize our lives!
In his message Pope Francis exhorts us to “make our hearts firm to confront a globalization of indifference that is sweeping the world by practicing acts of charity and becoming islands of mercy for brothers and sisters in need.”
Even as Indian Christians are feeling persecuted because of vandalisation of churches, we also become conscious that we have not expressed sufficient solidarity with other Christian communities, like for example in Iraq, Syria and Libya, and with people of other faiths elsewhere on the globe, who are also persecuted.
This Lenten season let us engage in the formation of the heart by allowing the Spirit of God to pierce it and to lead us closer to brothers and sisters in need.
